Red River Rally 2001

Sunday day I ran into Brina and her crew browsing the vendors and invited all the women to come and hang out on the front balcony at The Lodge. They were a vision of beauty with tight tops hugging big racks. After getting the town and cops riled up again, I asked the ladies if they’d like to hook up after dinner and pose on their old man’s testosterone, I mean nitrous injected bourgette bikes. They agreed, as long as Stan and I promised to join them for a hot tub party at their hotel afterwards. Poor-me.
As expected, once the ladies straddled the iron on the side of the street, men came out from every direction to get a better view of the sweeties. It only took about 15 minutes before traffic was at a standstill and a couple Mounties came to break it up. What a great show it was while it lasted.

Soon after arriving at the Ski View Hotel everyone changed into their suits, grabbed a cold twelve pack, and ambushed the blue hairs in the hot tub. Sixteen bodies poured into this small square body of water, (shaken, not stirred) got better acquainted. It was Tony’s birthday and in honor, all the guys took off their old lady’s bikini tops and placed them on the birthday boy’s head.

Tony stood up, almost fell out, then spun around in the middle of the hot tub displaying his trophies. One of the girls pantsed him and he fell in his buddies lap. The drunken-bikini-dance was repeated again and all the gals’ bottoms were added to Tony, the whirling bikini Christmas tree. We got pictures of everything from toe sucking, to beaver dunking to add to our twisted photo albums.

On Memorial Day, the Vietnam Veterans National Memorial was once again graced by thousands of vets and civilians for the ceremony. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 318, hosted a 30 x 50 foot U.S. Flag that was marched from the intersection of Hwy 434 & 64 to the War Memorial. Anyone who had the desire to join in and help carry the flag was more than welcome. Along with the jet and huey flyovers, 21 gun salute, posting and retiring of colors, Adrian Cronauer, the military broadcaster featured in the movie "Good Morning Vietnam", was invited to be the keynote speaker.

Ben, a retired Colonel, over at the town hardware store showed his gratitude on this day by having a table set up with paper, pen, empty glass, and a bottle of wine in honor of the POW/MIA yet to return.

Rain River was just a myth this year, with not a drop of rain until all the festivities had ended. We were blessed with beautiful blue skies and temperatures in the 80's the entire Memorial Day weekend. With the biggest crowd yet at 20,000 plus, 1 traffic-related death, and a handful of minor arrests this was the biggest, best, and most trouble-free Red River Run to date.

Thanks to all the folks of Red River for making us feel so welcome and to Priscilla and Steve at "The Lodge" for the best room in the house. Thanks to Charlie and staff at the Bull O' the Woods for making sure we had our share of booze and flesh. Thanks to the Police Departments for being such good sports, Mark Drummond and The Chamber of Commerce for the thoughtful plaques and to the clubs for taking care of their own.

As you're packing your bags to head for this fun-loving rally next year, please don't forget the beads.
